4 Myths and Misconceptions About Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care has been used effectively in countless ways and situations over the years, treating patients with issues from sciatica to pregnancy pain, to carpel tunnel syndrome, to arthritis, to neck and back pain. It has been proven as a viable means of restoring the body to full health; however there still are many myths and misconceptions about chiropractic care that get passed around due to a lack of true understanding of the beneficial treatment. So below we’re going to address the four biggest myths and misconceptions to give a better understanding of how chiropractic care works.
Myth #1: It is Dangerous
Many people still believe, even after countless research studies and scientific proof that chiropractic care is effective and safe, that chiropractic practices are dangerous and can lead to injuries that can be serious. What is more, many believe that chiropractors are not licensed medical professionals and that they have limited training in the area. The simple truth is that the myth is not true on either count. Chiropractic care has been labeled by health organizations such as the World Health Organization as a safe alternative to other forms of treatment such as surgery or pharmaceutical drugs. Chiropractors are licensed physicians who go through rigorous training and licensing procedures that take years to ensure that no danger is involved with chiropractic care.
Myth #2: It is Nothing More than a Placebo
Sadly, a common myth in chiropractic care is that it is little more than a placebo effect. In reality the truth is that chiropractic care has been shown to have direct effect on the improved health of patients; relieving pain, relaxing the muscles and joints, eliminating stress/fatigue and more. Chiropractors use precise manipulation of the body’s musculoskeletal system to correct issues within it. By correcting the problems the patient is able to have improved function in their body.
Myth #3: It is Painful
Another misconception about chiropractic care is that any treatment will be painful, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. Chiropractors spend years learning the ins and outs of the profession to make adjusts as painless and relaxing as possible. It is rare that any patient will feel discomfort during a session and never to the point where it could be defined as pain.
Myth #4: It is Expensive
In relation to many other forms of medical treatment, the cost of chiropractic care is but a drop in the bucket compared to options like surgery. When an issue develops, using low cost chiropractic care to treat the problem before it becomes a serious issue can help a patient avoid astronomically expensive treatments like back surgery, hip replacement, etc.
