6 Ways to Stay Fantastically Fit in Fall
For most people, summer is an active time. But when the kids go back to school and the weather starts to cool down, many of us abandon our healthy habits. Instead of getting up for that workout, we sleep in. Instead of choosing tea to warm up with, we grab a hot cocoa with marshmallows. We overindulge at parties and then come New Year’s Eve, we’re all vowing yet again how we’ll get back in shape for summer.
You can break that vicious cycle by sticking to good fitness habits right now. Here’s how to stay fit this fall so you won’t have to make the same tired resolutions in a few more months.
1. Use the weather to your advantage
There’s something blissfully invigorating about colder weather. It’s crisp and refreshing, perfect for getting outdoors. Shake up your old routine by making some of your workouts happen outdoors. You’ll be more motivated and if you still crave pumpkin spice, you can enjoy chai tea or sprinkle cinnamon on your black coffee for the same cozy effect.
2. Try something new
Every fall, our kids go back to school and start learning something new. You can too. Now is the best time to try out that new dance class you keep saying you want to do. Kick off fall with a new healthy habit and you’ll have fitness and fun all in one!
3. Find other ways to be active
Fall is a great time to snuggle up indoors and watch TV. But all that sitting isn’t good for you. If you are watching something with commercials, get up and do bodyweight exercises while you wait for your show to come back on. If there are no commercials, consider setting up a stationary bike or jogging in place while you watch rather than mindlessly munching on chips.
4. Work around the darkness
As the hours of sunlight slip away, many people give up their early morning or early evening exercise routines. If you really can’t stand the darkness, find a different time of day to get your exercise in, or workout indoors where you can control the lighting.
5. Wear wicking fitness clothes
One conundrum with exercising in autumn is that you need to layer your clothing, yet those layers get wet with sweat. Instead of having to peel off layers and risk catching a cold, wear clothing made of wicking fabric. It naturally draws moisture from your skin to keep you dry without bogging you down.
6. Find your motivator and use it
Each of us has something that motivates us. Whatever it is for you, use it to keep up with your fitness routine. It takes more than just setting goals. We can laugh at goals while we’re eating cake when we’re in a bad mood. Use the thing that motivates you to propel you to your goals.
And when you keep blowing off your fitness, you should most definitely call us to have a personal trainer work with you. You don’t even have to go anywhere…they’ll come to you no matter the weather!
